Mesa City Council recently took action designating 2 new historic landmarks in Mesa. One landmark is First United Methodist Church, 15 E. 1st Ave. It is the third church built on the site. Its steeple has been part of the downtown skyline since the 1950s. The second landmark is Ponderosa II, 602 S. Edgewater Dr. It is an exact replica of the ranch home owned by the Cartwright family in the TV series Bonanza. It was built in 1963 as a weekend retreat by actor Lorne Greene.
