Registration begins for Mayor's Youth Summer of Service

Attention high school teens! Are you looking to have fun and serve your community this summer? If so, Mayor John Giles has a great opportunity just for you during the month of June. The award winning Mayor's Youth Summer of Service is a series of service-learning projects especially designed for teens. The program was such a hit the last five years that the projects all filled up in the first few days of registration.

Mayor Giles believes that building a culture of youth volunteerism will create long-term benefits for the community and for the youth who engage in service.

"The benefits of service are greater than just satisfying an immediate community need," Mayor Giles said. "Teens who volunteer come to understand the issues in their community and realize they have the power to make positive changes."

Some of the service projects this year include sorting donations for children in foster care, helping with activities in a senior care center, caring for animals at a local shelter and much more. Teens can participate in up to four service projects plus the first aid class. Spaces are limited so sign up before they fill up!
