THINKspot’s Third Anniversary Event - A Maker Rodeo

Visitors can be inspired by a wide range of creations made by fellow community members and see the tools used to make them during Mesa THINKspot's third anniversary celebration. The "Maker Rodeo" will be held on Sat., Oct. 1 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The event will feature an open house and�numerous activities and displays including:

• A community sewing project where you can help sew blankets for homeless pets awaiting adoption for Maricopa County Animal Control East Valley Center (all supplies provided)
• Westwood High School Engineering and Precision Manufacturing students demonstrating their custom designed robots
• Sunlife Amateur Radio Club showing ham radio apparatus and sharing information about ham radio license preparation
• Demos of THINKspot's 3D printers and objects made with them by local 3D printers Mark Staxon and Bill Maynard
• Films from THINKspot's summer Film Camp students and works from Kyle Hobson's Qonda Entertainment, as well as a tour of the THINKspot Studio
• Woodworking from Wayne Kraft and Sharkey, oil painting and pastels from Nancy Kraft, white metal casting from Keith Glaab, and STEM activity displays by Odyssey of the Mind After School
• 105th Squad Cosplayer showing off costumes they've made and THINKspot's sewing machines
• Demos of lynda.com and info about the upcoming "Level Up! Video Game Development Challenge" for teen
• A chance for kids to learn about Code Club and to barrel race using small Ozobot robots

"This year, instead of just our Open House, we wanted to showcase the lively spirit of making in our community," Mesa THINKspot Coordinator, Sandy Rizzo said.� "Local people use amazing tools, technology, and creativity to build things large and small.� We're sure that folks of all ages will be inspired and find something new to make or do, including discovering how they might use the resources in THINKspot."�

All in attendance will receive a free THINKspot microfiber cloth, one per person, while supplies last, and enjoy treats provided by Golden Corral on Power south of McKellips.�

Mesa THINKspot is a collaborative workspace and makerspace within the Red Mountain Branch of the Mesa Public Libraries. People can find tools and programs�to help them innovate, start or build a business, and learn a new skill.� The space features training on 3D printers and other devices, Collaboration Rooms with SMARTboards, and programs on technology and new ideas.
