Water changes due to treatment plant maintenance

Mesa, AZ - City of Mesa water customers who reside in the area east of the Loop 101 to Val Vista Drive and north of Baseline Road may experience subtle cloudiness in their water in December and January.

Cloudy water can result when the Water Resources Department temporarily switches from surface water to well water to perform routine treatment plant maintenance. In this case, the Val Vista Water Treatment Plant is having maintenance performed beginning December 5, 2016 and will return to regular service February, 2017.

"Our water distribution system is pressurized, causing any air that is present to be dissolved in the water until the pressure is released at the tap," Water Quality Supervisor Ken Marshall said. "Dissolved air in the water has a cloudy or milky appearance, but it is safe to drink and will not damage plumbing or appliances. Residents can rest assured that their water continues to meet all state and federal water quality standards."

Marshall went on to offer a remedy to cloudy water. "An easy solution is to fill a pitcher with tap water and place it in the refrigerator. The air bubbles will dissipate and the water will be crystal clear."
