LAUNCHPOINT, Mesa's technology accelerator, congratulates two of its participants, CleanRouter and Prenda, for being selected to the Venture Madness competition top 64. Prizes include a chance to receive up to $300,000 from an investor pool and win a portion of the $20,000 cash prize.
"It is exciting to see companies that use Mesa's LAUNCHPOINT compete in Venture Madness. Congratulations to CleanRouter and Prenda. We look forward to watching both of them advance in the competition and continue their success," Mayor John Giles said.
CleanRouter is a Mesa company founded by Spencer Thomason and Eric Vance. The company offers a product that manages internet devices to keep kids safe from unseemly internet sites, allows parents to control screen time, and emails parents reports regarding kids' online activity. According to the founders, "CleanRouter is the brand parents trust to keep your kids safe online". CleanRouter has doubled its revenue over the last year and has six full-time employees. The company joined LAUNCHPOINT last November. Thomason said, "LAUNCHPOINT has been a great space for our business. Its flexible model and the resources offered, have allowed us to triple our company meetings and meet our growth needs. The networking with other entrepreneurs onsite has also been very beneficial." Mesa startup, Prenda, has also been selected as a contestant in Venture Madness. Prenda began participating at LAUNCHPOINT in September and founder/CEO, Kelly Smith, has been a champion of the program. According to Smith, the company launched as an experiment to find out if eight year-olds could teach themselves computer programming. "We started a Code Club at the public library in Mesa, Arizona, put up some posters, and by the second week we had more young coders than we could fit in the computer lab," Smith said. The company offers a coding education model, that blends online and offline approaches, to teach coding in a format that requires no prior instructional experience.
