The new Mesa Fire and Medical Regional Dispatch Center started taking calls and dispatching in March, and already, the state-of-the-art facility is racking up awards.

The Arizona Chapter of the American Public Works Association honored the dispatch center and Emergency Operations Center, which is in the same facility, as the 2017 project of the year for structures in the $5 million to $25 million category.

The dispatch center answers more than 175,000 phone calls each year and provides mission critical support for the City of Mesa Fire and Medical Department and other partner agencies, including fire/medical departments from the towns of Gilbert and Queen Creek as well as the Superstition Mountain communities of Apache Junction and Gold Canyon. It had outgrown its previous location, which necessitated a new facility. The project came in at about $8 million.

The dispatch center is equipped with 12 positions and a state-of-the-art media wall. The adjacent EOC was created with cutting-edge equipment and more room to provide real time information and collaboration during major events or emergencies.

The City of Mesa partnered with CORE Construction and HDA Architects on the project.
