Want to see the latest in virtual reality gear? Have an interest in video game design or coding? How will robotics impact classroom teaching in the future?

These along with more than 50 other hands-on exhibitions, lectures and demonstrations will be showcased at the Mesa Arts Center this Thursday, Aug. 31, for the 7th Annual Arizona SciTech Kickoff Conference.

While these hands-on displays may draw the headlines, the kickoff conference plays a critical role in convening educators, innovators and tech companies under one roof to focus on strategies that will continue to position Arizona as a leader in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education and engagement.

This year's theme, "Building Arizonas STEM Ecosystem," supports education and making Mesa the best place for quality jobs.

From Mesa's thriving aviation and aerospace sector to the growing Elliot Road Technology Corridor, Mesa has a lot to offer in this space and seeks to support a talent pipeline that ensures students are well-versed in STEM.

This year's SciTech event at the MAC is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees, an excitement that underscores the demand for and interest in STEM-related skills and jobs in the workforce.

The conference kicks off bright and early Thursday morning, Aug. 31. There's still time to register, and students can attend for free.
