Mesa extends help to Hurricane Harvey survivors

August 31, 2017 at 8:42 am

As the flood tragedy from Hurricane Harvey in Houston and the surrounding area continues to play out, the City of Mesa has been contacted by caring members of the community and City employees asking how they can help.

We've turned to the Mesa United Way, which is taking donations on its website,www.mesaunitedway.org.To donate, users can select a designated donation and enter "Houston Flood Relief" or visit this direct link.

Mesa United Way is guaranteeing that 100% of donations will be provided to the victims of Hurricane Harvey.

Mesa United Way is also recommending that if Mesa residents would prefer to provide supplies that they do so through the Arizona Midwest Food Bank (AZ Midwest).

AZ Midwest is located at 725 E. Baseline Road (near Horne and Baseline). AZ Midwest is collecting supplies(cleaners, generators, commercial fans, water pumps, mops and buckets, rubber gloves, respirator masks, towels, cleaners, garbage bags, packing boxes) and hygiene kits(soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, razors, combs, brushes, nail clippers, washcloths). A full list of needed donations can be found on AZ Midwest's Facebook page.

AZ Midwest will be collecting these items and hauling them to Houston over the coming weeks for as long as supplies are provided for the victims.

Thank you, Mesa, for lending a helping hand.
