Ground has been broken on a new Residence Inn by Marriott, 10243 E. Hampton Ave., near U.S. 60 and Crismon Road. The hotel will open in September 2018.

"Residence Inn by Marriott is a great addition to the area and another sign of the growing success of east Mesa," Mayor John Giles said. "Travelers visiting Mesa for business or pleasure will have a convenient place to stay with easy freeway access just a few miles from Gateway Airport."

The four-story, 98,000 square foot hotel is designed for extended-stay lodging and will include 127 suites with fully functional kitchens and separate living, working and sleeping zones; grocery delivery service; 24-hour markets; complimentary breakfasts; free Wi-Fi and evening social events. The hotel will employ more than 100 people.

"The addition of a Marriott property to District 6 proves that businesses are recognizing east Mesa as one of the fastest growing areas in the valley," District 6 Councilmember Kevin Thompson said. "The area around Crismon and the U.S. 60 has gone through significant economic change over the past few years and this project provides the nexus that ties business to both recreation and destination."

The $25 million hotel is being built and managed by Khangura Development, LLC. A Tucson-based company. Robinette Architects, Inc. is the architect and Brycon Construction is the general contractor for the project.

"Khangura Development has waited 10 years for the opportunity to work on this project. We purchased the land in 2007, and it has been worth the wait. Working with Mesa and all involved has truly been a pleasure," Suky Khangura, owner and COO of Khangura Development, said. "We look forward to doing many more ventures in and around Mesa."

Residence Inn by Marriott is the global leader in the extended-stay lodging segment, with more than 700 properties located in the United States, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, and Central America.
