January 30, 2019 at 5:30 pm

The public is invited to learn about proposals for the future of Mesa's Falcon Field Airport in a drop-in workshop to be held 5:30-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13 at the Falcon Field Airport terminal building, 4800 E. Falcon Drive, Mesa, AZ 85215. The City of Mesa is updating the Airport Master Plan. As part of the Master Plan process, this is the final of three workshops held to inform the community of Master Plan milestones and seek public input. The focus of this workshop will be to highlight the recommended Master Plan Concept and capital program related to future development of the airport. In addition, data related to the economic impact of Falcon Field in Mesa and the region will be available. Questions are welcome, and representatives involved in the Master Plan update will be available to answer inquiries.

The Airport Master Plan will provide short, intermediate, and long-term development goals for the Airport. It provides a 20-year planning horizon based on aviation activity forecasts developed through professional evaluation and public involvement. The goal of the Master Plan is to provide the framework needed to guide future Airport development that will cost-effectively satisfy aviation demand, while considering potential environmental and socioeconomic issues.

Required by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Master Plan will define the current and future role of the Airport in the local, regional, state, and national aviation system. The Master Plan also will provide a capital improvement program for future airport development, an Airport economic impact study, and an environmental overview defining the relationship of the airport with the surrounding environment.

The FAA recommends that public use airports like Falcon Field Airport prepare a new Airport Master Plan every 7-10 years or as local aviation conditions change. The previous Master Plan was completed in 2010. The City initiated the Master Plan update to ensure the Airport continues to be operated in a safe and efficient manner, and to address local and national changes in the aviation industry.
