On July 20, 1969, American astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin became the first humans ever to land on the moon. Mesa Public Library will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Apollo moon landing with several activities Saturday, July 20 at Main Library, 64 E. First St.:
10:30 am. - Moon themed storytime.
11 a.m. - Moon crafts and activities
11 a.m. - Lunar rover landings recreation.
We will use popsicle sticks, rubber bands, straws and more to build our own space vehicles that must safely land a marshmallow passenger on the surface of the moon. The green screen photo will also be used at THINKspot
Mesa Public Library will soon have Orion Starblast telescopes to explore the beauty of the night sky! Beginning July 20, three of the telescopes will be available at the Main Library. Three additional telescopes are expected soon at Red Mountain Library and two more are expected soon at the Dobson Ranch Library. Telescopes will be available for checkout for one week and cannot be held or renewed. This project is supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives & Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
