Mesa recognizes Historic Preservation Award recipients

Mesa City Council recognized the 2019 recipients of Historic Preservation Awards at its Oct. 21 meeting:

City of Mesa - Rehabilitation and Restoration for the assistance in preserving the City of Mesa's neon signs

Michelle Donovan - Rehabilitation and Restoration for the building facade at The Nile Theater and The Nile Coffee Shop

Kathy Adams - Stewardship for the building facade at the Nile Theater

Bruce Nelson - Local Preservationist for the Research and Production of the documentary "Nile Theater: An Oasis in the Desert"

Sandra Gracia Apsey - Education and Outreach for the preservation of the Washington Park/Escobedo Community

The City's Historic Preservation Board selected the recipients from a group of nominations received during the spring.

Since 1998, the City has recognized more than 50 citizens and preservation projects for their contributions to historic preservation in Mesa.
