Plans have been announced to transform the former Macy's building at Fiesta Mall into the Fiesta Corporate Campus, creating an of fice center with the potential to have as many as 1,300 employees working there. Verde Fiesta I, LLC, represented by Scott Jackson and Steven Johnson, has reached an agreement with Macy's, Inc. to purchase the building.
"Fiesta Mall is the center of the Fiesta District and this reuse of Macy's is exactly the type of urban development we've had in mind for the area," Mayor John Giles said. "I'm pleased to welcome Verde Fiesta I, LLC and wish them the best of success."
The Fiesta Corporate Campus is an important first step to reinvigorate the 35-year-old mall. Macy's closed its store at Fiesta Mall in early 2014.
"The development by Verde Fiesta I, LLC at the Macy's site is much needed shot in the arm for Fiesta Mall. This project will add to the investments made by the City of Mesa and area stakeholders to strengthen the entire Fiesta District," Vice Mayor Dennis Kavanaugh said.
Construction to remodel the building is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2015. The exterior of the building will be modernized under the Fiesta District design guidelines. A 2,500 square foot patio/break area will be added to the upper-level outdoor area providing a comfortable setting for employees with seating, views of the Fiesta District and natural shading.
"The property has many key features for companies considering locations in the east valley including freeways and immediate access to hotels, restaurants and a diverse labor force," Verde Fiesta I, LLC Partner Scott Jackson said. "The building design provides a strong corporate image and the high ceilings, data services and plentiful parking will meet today's office user needs.
The construction project is expected to take 18 months.
