Mesa offering relief to low income seniors on their water bills

August 4, 2020 at 4:13 pm

The City of Mesa is now offering the Low-Income Senior Water Discount Program (LISR). The residential utility assistance program, in partnership with A New Leaf/Mesa Community Action Network (MesaCAN), provides a 30 percent discount on the Water Service Rate, one of the key water rate components on a customer's bill. On a three-quarter inch water service, the most common size for residences, the discount reduces the fixed, monthly charge from $28.10 per month to $19.67 per month. This program does not change any other water rate component.

To qualify for the LISR program, residents must be 60 years of age or older; a permanent, full-time resident of the service address and low income as defined by the Arizona Department of Economic Security Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Once MesaCAN reviews and qualifies the applicant, the LISR discount program will be added to the customer's account and will take effect with the next utility bill. The discounted rate cannot be applied retroactively. A Customer will be required to reapply and requalify after five years.

Applications can be picked up at MesaCAN, 635 E. Broadway Road or mailed to you by calling MesaCAN at (480) 833-9200 ext. 3401. You can also apply online at https://form.jotform.com/turnanewleaf/utility-assistance-self-serviceor download it at https://www.mesaaz.gov/home/showdocument?id=39362.
