The City of Mesa, in partnership with Mesa Public Schools, will be offering COVID-19 testing and flu shots in a series of public events on five consecutive Saturdays beginning Sept. 19. Testing events are being held in zip codes experiencing higher numbers of positive COVID-19 rates including 85201, 85202, 85203, 85204 and 85210.
Events will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the following schools:
Sept. 19 - Longfellow Elementary, 345 S. Hall
Sept. 26 - Lincoln Elementary, 930 S. Sirrine
Oct. 3 - Washington Elementary, 2260 W. Isabella Ave.
Oct. 10 - Hughes Elementary, 630 N. Hunt Drive
Oct. 17 - Webster Elementary, 202 N. Sycamore
All COVID tests and flu shots will be provided at no cost, regardless of insurance. No appointment or pre-registration is needed. Everyone is welcome to the events and indoor social distancing guidelines will be followed. Tests will be administered by Mountain Vista Medical Center. The COVID-19 results will be available within 48 hours.
"I'm pleased that we're taking proactive steps toward a healthy community in Mesa, by offering easy-to-access sites for free COVID-19 testing and flu shots," said Mayor John Giles. "It's an ideal time to get ahead of flu season, and I encourage all Mesa residents to get tested and to get a flu shot early."
Free masks, hand sanitizer and resource information about Mesa CARES programs such as utility assistance and eviction and foreclosure prevention will also be provided. Mesa Public Schools will provide free household cleaning supplies at the Sept. 19 event and on a limited basis afterwards based on inventory available. Mesa Fire and Medical Department personnel will be on site to offer the flu shots and assist with the COVID-19 testing.
