City of Mesa seeks applicants for advisory boards and committees

Mesa residents are invited to participate in the process of local government by serving on the City's volunteer advisory boards and committees. The City of Mesa seeks the knowledge, expertise and experience of its residents to advise, inform and make recommendations to city leadership and City Council on a variety of policies and services.

Recruitment for advisory boards and committees is ongoing, and all appointments of applicants to the boards are recommended by the Mayor and approved by the City Council.

Current openings are listed below. Applications are accepted and reviewed on a rolling basis.

The Building Board of Appeals hears appeals to determinations made by the Building Safety Director and/or the Fire Marshal; decides on reasonable interpretations of the Building Regulations and Chapter 2 of the Fire Regulations; determines the suitability of alternate materials and alternate methods of construction; and recommends changes to the various building and fire codes.

The Human Relations Advisory Board advises the City Council about racial, religious, ethnic, cultural, disability or other human relations issues affecting the delivery of City services to residents, businesses and visitors. The board recommends policies to eliminate discrimination and prejudice and to promote mutual understanding and serves as a public forum for citizen input on human relations issues. Currently seeking applicants for community representatives.

The Housing & Community Development Advisory Board advises the City Council on housing community development, social services priorities, funding and planning across the community.

The Judicial Advisory Board recommends to the City Council the best qualified persons to become City magistrates and evaluates the performance of appointed magistrates. Currently seeking applicants for community representatives (2).

The Museum and Cultural Advisory Board advises City Council on policies related to arts and cultural facilities and services, and on policies related to public art. The MCAB also makes recommendations on fees and charges, attends events and advocates on behalf of arts and culture. Currently seeking applicants for community representatives (4).

The Personnel Appeals Board conducts hearings and makes recommendations to the City Manager concerning action on employee grievances, demotions, suspensions and dismissals that are referred to the board. Members of this board must be Mesa residents and cannot hold City office at the time of service. Currently seeking applicants for community representatives.

The Self-Insurance Board of Trustees makes recommendations to the Mesa City Manager and the Council on matters pertaining to the financial viability of trust funds for which the City of Mesa is self-insured, including employee benefits, loss and liability claims, and workers' compensation.Currently seeking applicants for community representatives.
