Work has officially started at the site of the Mesa Arts District Lofts, a 335-unit multifamily development that will include close to 13,000 square feet of retail space. The project will have five buildings of three, four and five stories on approximately 10 acres along Main Street, east of Sirrine, on the former Brown and Brown auto dealership site. Today, the City of Mesa, Opus Development Company, and other partners took part in a ceremonial groundbreaking to highlight the project's positive impact on downtown revitalization efforts.

"This is an exciting step forward in the transformation of Mesa's downtown, providing an additional housing option in an ideal location," said Mayor John Giles. "It's remarkable to see the first phase of the project already coming to life, and we're eager to see the impact of this development downtown."

"The Mesa Arts District Lofts is in a terrific location within walking distance of the light rail, Mesa Arts Center, Benedictine University, ASU and our great restaurants and shops downtown," said Vice Mayor Jenn Duff. "The housing options will complement our historic districts and other nearby neighborhoods."

When completed, the Arts District Lofts will have a diverse mix of housing choices ranging from studios and courtyard-facing lofts to three bedroom apartments and three bedroom townhomes. The complex will include a state-of-the-art fitness center, clubhouse, swimming pool and spa, fire pit, bocce court, dog washing station and eight electric vehicle charging stations (with infrastructure in place to service an additional 78 electrical vehicles). The design also allows for two future mid-rise residential buildings.

"Opus is excited to get the Mesa Arts District Lofts development underway. This will be a first-class development and will add to the energy and transformation this is happening in downtown Mesa," said Brett Hopper, Vice President of Real Estate Development for Opus Development Company. "We are pleased to partner with the City of Mesa in bringing this important mixed-use project to fruition."

The Mesa Arts District Lofts will begin welcoming residents in May 2023, and will be fully completed by March 2024.
