City of Mesa News

Mesa is looking for volunteers to help plant 65 Italian Cypress trees at the historic Mesa Cemetery. The tree planting will be on Saturday, Nov. 19 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Mesa Cemetery, 1212 N. Center St. People interested in joining this community project can sign-up online at https://www.signupgenius.com/go/9040b4ca5ac23a3fa7-nflgreen.
The National Football League (NFL) awarded Mesa a $4000 Community Greening grant to replace a large number of trees lost in recent monsoon storms.
"Mesa Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities Department is very grateful for the NFL grant to plant the Italian Cypress trees and add even more beauty and shade to the Mesa Cemetery," said Andrea Moore, department director. "This is a tremendous gift to Mesa and another example of how having the Super Bowl in our state benefits so many cities throughout Arizona."
The NFL, Verizon, the Arizona Superbowl Host Committee, APS and Footprint have developed a matching grant program to fund various community "greening" projects throughout the state ahead of Super Bowl LVII. Projects include tree planting, community gardens, habitat restoration, pollinator projects and reforestation initiatives.
