The City of Mesa Historic Preservation Office invites residents to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month with a free event on Saturday, May 3 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Post, 26 N. Macdonald.
The event includes historic tours in downtown Mesa and the West 2nd Street historic district, plus an awards ceremony with the student winners of the City's Historic Essay and Visual Arts Contest. The essay and visual arts contests were judged separately. Awards are being given to the first, second and third place contest winners in each category to both the students and teachers. Every contestant will receive a certificate of participation. Pizza and cupcakes will be available to everyone attending.
During National Historic Preservation Month in May, the City of Mesa Historic Preservation Office and other government agencies join with historical societies and preservation groups across the country to promote the importance of preserving historic places.
The City of Mesa is proud to have eight local historic districts (neighborhoods) and over a dozen landmarks listed on the Mesa Historic Property Register.
