Mesa Police Headquarters, 130 N. Robson, will undergo a massive renovation over the next 20 months. Construction officially kicked off this morning following a symbolic brick-breaking ceremony. The electrical, plumbing and other building systems will be removed and replaced, while other structural improvements will increase the efficiency of existing space. The project will also improve public access while providing a more secure entrance for employees.
"This project will give our police department the necessary tools, space and support to serve Mesa for future generations," said Mayor Mark Freeman. "These voter-approved investments allow us to modernize critical infrastructure and meet the changing needs of our rapidly growing city."
The remodel of the Mesa Police Department Headquarters is designed to prioritize employee wellness by enhancing working and employee common areas. This project will also revamp public and community engagement spaces. The building will boast a larger and more inviting public lobby, a repositioned and more prominently featured Fallen Officer Memorial and an expanded holding facility, all of which will significantly improve the communitys interaction with the department.
"The new police headquarters building represents a major step forward for our department and the community. This modern facility will significantly improve working conditions for our staff while also creating a welcoming space for the public. The addition of a community room underscores our commitment to breaking down barriers and strengthening partnerships with the people we serve every day," said Police Chief Ken Cost.
Approximately 250 employees work at Mesa Police Headquarters. During construction, staff will be temporarily relocated across the City. Residents needing information can visit the adjacent Central Police Substation, 120 N. Robson. People asking about public records requests, photo safety inquiries, towing and bond outs should visit 59 S. Hibbert. Those asking about property pickup should visit 154 N. Robson.
Mesa Police Headquarters was built in 1974, with additions occurring in 1988 and 1997. The current construction project is scheduled for completion in early 2027.
Funding for the project is primarily from the voter-approved 2022 Public Safety Bonds and the Public Safety Sales Tax.
