City of Mesa News
The recent allegations regarding Cesar Chavez are deeply disturbing, and we take them very seriously. We recognize the impact this news may have on those affected.
In coordination with the Mayor, City Council and local civil rights leaders, the City has directed the immediate removal of the honorary Calle Cesar Chavez street signs and the commemorative plaque along Broadway Road.
Moving forward, programs and events that previously acknowledged Cesar Chavez will be adjusted to preserve their purpose while removing association with him.
These allegations do not define the broader civil rights movement, nor do they diminish the contributions of Mesa's Hispanic community.
This decision reflects the City's commitment to public spaces that are respectful and aligned with community values.
Community resources for those impacted by abuse are available through Mesa's Victim Services.
