Final LED Streetlight Installation in Mesa

Lighting the way forward, the City of Mesa Transportation Department has completed its massive LED streetlight installation project. The final fixture was installed this morning in front of the Transportation Administration Building, 300 E. 6th St. Mayor Mark Freeman was with Transportation Streetlight Technician Harry Hammonds in a two-person bucket truck to install the final LED streetlight.

In 2019, Mesa began a seven-year commitment to convert all 46,064 streetlights to light emitting diode (LED) fixtures in house. This created a savings of over 19,250 megawatts hours of electricity per year and over $7 million in taxpayer dollars had the project been outsourced.

The lifespan of LEDs results in fewer fixture replacement purchases, less staff time and fewer traffic restrictions. Smart technology connects the streetlights to a web-based public lighting management system, allowing the streetlights to be virtually managed.
