Mesa Public Library is partnering with multi-platinum band Jimmy Eat World on a special limited edition library card. This collaboration is in recognition of both the 120th anniversary of Mesa Public Library and the 25th anniversary of Jimmy Eat World's "Bleed American" album, for which the band is currently on tour.
All four members of Jimmy Eat World grew up in Mesa, attending Mountain View and Westwood high schools. They formed the band in 1993.
"We couldn't be more excited to partner with the Mesa Public Library to design a Jimmy Eat World inspired library card to help celebrate their 120th Anniversary," said the band. "We all grew up within a mile or so of the library in downtown Mesa and some of our earliest memories as kids were visits with our families or classmates to check out our favorite books. We believe so strongly in supporting ALL public libraries, but in particular Mesa Public Library because of all it has and continues to provide the community."
The special edition library card resembles a vintage concert ticket and contains several nods to both the library and the band.
"Mesa Public Library's 120th anniversary is not just a celebration of the library, but also what's been uniquely local about Mesa throughout its history," said Library Director Polly Bonnett. "We believe that stories and music have the power to transform lives and are thrilled for the opportunity to collaborate with Jimmy Eat World on this very special limited edition library card. This is an opportunity to celebrate their Mesa roots and the impact their music has had across the world."
The card will be available at all Mesa Public Library locations starting Saturday, Oct. 10. A 120th anniversary celebration will take place at the Main Library, 64 E. First St., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
